Over the course of several weeks in my design class during Spring 2022, I designed some album covers as a personal exploration project in order to develop more skills and apply my design work to a personal interest.
Album cover designed for Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar. At the time of designing, the album had just been announced and the cover was not revealed yet.
Album cover redesigned for Faces, a mixtape by Mac Miller. I wanted to incorporate some faces in the cover with hand drawn features I scanned in to Illustrator.
Second redesign for Faces by Mac Miller. I wanted to explore using solely text as a design, and I drew inspiration from two old jazz album covers for both redesigns.
Album cover redesign for Donda by Kanye West. This was the first album cover redesign I made for the series. I used an image from his listening party for the center image; the outside design was inspired by the previous compilation album Cruel Summer and collaboration album Watch the Throne. I felt like there was a similar motif that I could continue for Donda, as Kanye featured a lot of artists.
Second redesign for Donda by Kanye West. This is meant to be a deluxe album cover.
Redesign for Intimidated, a 3-song EP by Kaytranada. This design comes from a poster I made that is featured on my portfolio site as well, but I wanted to bring it into an album cover design to be included on this series.
Album cover design for Cocodrillo Turbo by Action Bronson. I designed this cover based off of Action Bronson's single art for Subzero, before the album was released.
